Class 3/22/09

Assalam Alaikum
I will not be in class this week. Your job will be to focus on the surahs you have memorized, or are currently memorizing. The week afterwards (3/29/09) you have no school. Make sure you go through all of the surahs because once we come back, you will have a quiz on a random surah; make sure you are prepared. Expect the current surah we are memorizing to be on the quiz!

Surahs to go over:
'Alaq
Tin
Inshirah
Duha

Lesson#2 Guttural Letters حروف حلقى

The second category of letters come from the throat. Thus they are termed the Guttural Letters. There are three parts to this category. These sub-categories represent the three parts of the throat namely: Adna, Awsat, and Aqsa. Below is the order in which they occur as well as the letters which are pronounced from the different parts. Later on, when we will be talking about the rules of ن , these letters will become very important.

Lesson 1: Maddah Letters حروف مدّه

3.The first category of letters we looked at were the Maddah letters. The letters are ا و ى . Maddah comes from the word Mad which means to stretch. The rule for stretching is simple. First the letters (ا وى) need to have a saakin/jazm ( ْ ). Now inorder for Mad to occur, or inorder to stretch, the letter before Alif ا should have a fatha, the letter before Ya ى should have a kasra, and the letter before Wawو should have a dammah.

Examples:

1. اَنَّاس

2. اَلْفِيْل

3. يُوْلَدْ

Assalam Alaikum
This blog is created to help and facilitate those students learning Tajweed. This blog will contain notes, diagrams, and practical applications. Students are requested to take this seriously, and InshAllah soon they will become great recitors of Qur'an. I will try putting up as much material as possible in the upcoming days, InshAllah, however, it may even take couple of weeks. Please bear with me patiently. JazakAllah
